Program Intro
The LPN to ADN Transition–A45110 curriculum provides knowledge, skills, and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in a dynamic environment, and to meet individual needs which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary team providing safe, individualized care while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.
Graduates of this program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Employment opportunities are vast within the global health care system and may include positions within acute, chronic, extended industrial, and community health care facilities.

This course provides a comprehensive study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body. - PSY 150 – General Psychology
This course provides an overview of the scientific study of human behavior.
- NUR 211 – Health Care Concepts
This course is designed to further develop the concepts within the three domains of the individual, healthcare, and nursing. - PSY 241 – Developmental Psych
This course is a study of human growth and development. Emphasis is placed on major theories and perspectives as they relate to the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial aspects of development from conception to death. - ENG 111 – Writing and Inquiry
This course is designed to develop the ability to produce clear writing in a variety of genres and formats using a recursive process.
- NUR 114 – Holistic Health Concepts
This course is designed to further develop the concepts within the three domains of the individual, healthcare, and nursing. - HUM 115 – Critical Thinking
This course introduces the use of critical thinking skills in the context of human conflict.

Program Requirements
MATH (All Programs)
An applicant must have completed one of the following before receiving the application packet:
- An unweighted high school GPA of 2.8+ from a College Prep Curriculum valid within 10 years of enrollment
- MAT 080 with a grade of “C” or higher within the past 10 years
- RISE placement or transition studies showing mastery of Units 1-12 (Tier 2) within the past 10 years
- Students who do not satisfy the high school GPA or RISE placement requirements, must attend the transition course, MAT 003, until mastery is achieved through Unit 12 (Tier 2). Students who have completed one of the following college transfer math courses from a regionally accredited institution with a “C” or better may meet the math requirement: MAT 121, MAT 122, MAT 141, MAT 143, MAT 151, MAT 152, MAT 161, MAT 171, MAT 263, MAT 271 and other courses not listed may be considered on an individual basis. Students who receive Tier 2 credit via the “MAT 110, credit for Tier 2 Waiver/Substitution” will not qualify for placement into a Health Sciences/Nursing program. (A10300FY Statement)
BIOLOGY AND PSYCHOLOGY
An applicant must complete the following before receiving the LPN to ADN application packet:
- Applicants must also have completed BIO 168 and BIO169 with a grade of “C” or higher and PSY 150 with a grade of “C” or higher (the 5 year rule does not apply to these courses)
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- If an applicant has not completed PSY 241 and ENG 111, the applicant will be required to take these courses with NUR 211.
- If an applicant has not completed HUM 115, ENG 112, BIO 275, and a humanities/fine arts elective, the applicant will be required to take these courses with the NUR courses noted in the catalog.

If you have satisfied the math and biology prerequisites, you are ready to begin the competitive application process.
MATH PHARMACOLOGY EXAM
- Register for Math Pharmacology Exam with Skilar Heath. Please email sbheath16@lenoircc.edu.
- A satisfactory score must be obtained on the math-pharmacology competency exam.
- The Math Pharmacology Study Guide can be obtained upon registering for the exam.

POINT COUNT WORKSHEET
The LPN to ADN Transition program is designed for the current unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to complete the ADN program. Applicants must meet the prerequisite requirements for Associate Degree Nursing and a satisfactory score must be obtained on a math-pharmacology competency exam.
The ADN faculty will administer this exam to the qualified applicants in late fall semester. Pharmacology outlines for independent review will be available from the Admissions Office. For additional information, contact the Admissions Office at ext. 393, 337, or 395. Official transition into the ADN programs begins each spring.
Applicants must have completed the following related courses with a “C” or better: PSY 150, BIO 168, BIO 169. A corequisite of NUR 211 must be PSY 241 and ENG 111 if the courses have not been previously taken. HUM 115, ENG 112, BIO 275 and HUM/FINE Arts elective must be taken with respective NUR courses as noted in the catalog if not previously taken.
SEPTEMBER – OCTOBER
Complete the Intent to Apply form and upon receipt, submit the LPN to ADN Transition Application.
NOVEMBER
Take the Math Pharmacology Exam. Call 252-527-6223, ext. 393 for testing date and registration.
DECEMBER OR JANUARY
Provisional acceptance letters will be mailed to applicants.
MARCH
NUR 211 begins. This is an 8-week course. (Upon successful completion of NUR 211, LPNs may enter the third semester of the ADN program.
